PRODUCER SPOTLIGHT: DOMAINE DE LA TAILLE AUX LOUPS
"When it's time to change, It's time to rearrange" so sang the Brady Bunch Kids. In 1989 Jacky Blot, a Loire Wine Broker, took these lyrics to heart acquiring a few tiny parcels of well situated by somewhat forlorn 50 to 75 year old vine Chenin Blanc grapes in lesser known Montlouis sur Loire. He first drastically altered farming practices switching to organic methods. He also significantly lowered yields via increased vine pruning and stricly controlled grape selection. The result of this maniacal attention to detail has been wines of intense puity that has taken the appellation to new heights. At Taille Aux Loups Jacky makes several different styles of Chenin based wines including sparking, dry and sweet. Of the dry styles from Montlouis his top cuvee is the "Remus Plus" sourced from late harvested 80-100 year old vines. The wine is instense with honeyed apple and white flower aromatics framed by deep apple, stonefruit and toasted vanilla bean flavors. Mouthwatering acidity and minerality shine throughon the palate. This wine is a great match for rich shellfish and dense fleshed grilled fish.

WINE STYLE SPOTLIGHT: TIMORASSO
We may have left our hearts in San Francisco but our noses and palates are lingering somewhere in the undulating hills of Piemonte, Italy. The area produces a diverse range of wines, none more distant then Walter Massa's rare Timorasso. The grape, Timorrasso, once the most widely planted in Piemonte, nearly went extinct after growers switched to the more easily grown cortese grape. However, under the watchful eye of Walter Massa it is making a comeback. His wine is rich and lush with tropical melon, apple and apricot aromas and flavors. A faint nuttiness and creamy texture round out the palate.
